Projects
For their final projects, students design health websites, write final papers, and present their projects in the final class meeting. Their papers include a needs assessment, a competitive analysis, and justified design and technology decisions.
Samantha Moland, in Fall 2007, designed an online health community for younger women with osteoporosis and osteopenia. This is an atypical population who has less awareness and few sites that target their needs. Samantha’s goal was “to bring together young females with targeted information about osteoporosis. I’ll be looking at health promotion and disease prevention information as well as popular literature to plan a website that is most relevant to this age group and the potential secondary audiences (parents, spouses/partners, family members, etc.). It is critical to understand how the health problem is constructed and perceived within American culture to design appropriate and engaging website content and suggested discussion topics.” Samantha’s final paper and slides.
